1. Purpose

Help2Survive is committed to safeguarding and promoting the welfare of children, young people and adults at risk. Everyone involved with the charity shares responsibility for creating a safe environment.

2. Scope

This policy applies to trustees, volunteers, staff, contractors, partners and anyone acting on behalf of Help2Survive.

3. Principles

We will treat everyone with dignity and respect, take all safeguarding concerns seriously, act promptly on concerns, follow UK legislation and Charity Commission guidance, and maintain appropriate confidentiality.

4. Roles and Responsibilities

Trustees are responsible for safeguarding governance. All volunteers and staff must complete safeguarding training, follow this policy and report concerns immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL).

5. Recognising Abuse

Abuse may be physical, emotional, sexual, financial, discriminatory, neglect or exploitation. Concerns may arise from direct disclosure, observation or information received from others.

6. Reporting Concerns

Any safeguarding concern must be reported immediately to the Designated Safeguarding Lead. Where someone is at immediate risk of harm, contact emergency services by dialling 999 before notifying the charity.

7. Recruitment

Help2Survive is committed to safer recruitment practices. DBS checks, references and identity checks will be completed where appropriate for relevant volunteer or staff roles.

8. Confidentiality

Information will only be shared on a need-to-know basis and in accordance with UK GDPR and safeguarding legislation.

9. Training

Trustees, volunteers and staff will receive safeguarding awareness training appropriate to their roles and refresher training as required.

10. Policy Review

The Board of Trustees will review this policy annually or sooner if legislation or organisational requirements change.
